Since the days of the very popular television soap, “Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi”, Bindis have been in action. The big round bindis were in trend at that point of time as per what the Mother in law in the soap used to wear. Since then the evident bindis came into the picture and everyone used to wear the same. Even in the olden days, it was believed that every married girl or women has to have the bindi on her forehead that signifies her marriage. It not only added the beauty to the women but also had the customary meanings to it.

Times moved ahead and the bigger bindis were replaced by the smaller ones or rather the designs had crept in. he long ones with thin lines and mehendi designs or something like having different notch than the usual one. The weddings and the various occasions were marked by the different bindis that the women came with. Using the colors and the stickers, powdered bindis, and the glitters was what the highlights of the time.

Times came when the girls and women literally did stop wearing the bindis. They felt that the bindis were meant only for the elderly people and not for the youngsters. When this thought was instilled, the ones who were actually old enough stopped using the bindis in the hope that even they belonged to the young category. The mindsets were also liberal and allowed the removal of bindis. As initially it was compulsory for the married women to carry one.

Even most of our mothers and grandmothers don’t move out of the houses without bindis. They would not be accepted by the elders if they didn’t have one. When the husbands of the women did die, they were not allowed to use the bindis and were supposed to move bare forehead. But as times have changed and that mindsets are changing as well, freedom is given in all the cases. The bindis had gone out of the picture then.

With the modernization still creeping but the traditional norms still intact in their places, the mixture of both did live. And from somewhere or the other, the bindis did come in again. This time, plain, simple, colored and medium sized.  The traditional dresses, the sarres, and the cholis looked more elegant because of the bindis and that the faces did glow because of them.  It suits all kinds of faces, the bigger ones, the small or the round, the heart shaped or the square face. The very fact that it is the beauty in itself makes it very apt for the ladies out in the place.

The ladies and the girls as well have adapted the new beauty and make sure that they have the pack of it in their bags just in case they need it anytime. The colored bombs, the earrings, a little make up, crispy eyeliner and she is ready to flatten the men out there. The bindis controls their foreheads so the other men’s.
